Ask a Colorado State University graduate to picture campus and most will land on the same image: the Oval, the broad, tree-lined green ringed by some of the university's oldest buildings. It is the postcard view of CSU in Fort Collins — and, on a weekday in November, it is also a piece of working infrastructure, crossed constantly by students moving between classes, the library, Old Town and the neighborhoods around campus.

Colorado State is a land-grant university, founded as Colorado's agricultural college, and the Oval's historic buildings reflect that origin. The university has grown far beyond this core — to Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena, to research facilities across the city and a footprint that makes CSU one of Fort Collins' defining institutions — but the Oval remains its ceremonial center and its most recognizable ground.

The university's presence shapes the whole city, not just the campus edge. Students fill Old Town's shops and the MAX line on Mason Street, rent homes in the surrounding neighborhoods, and staff businesses across Fort Collins. Town-and-gown is not an abstraction here; it is the rental market, the bus at rush hour and the crowd on a game day, all at once.

November on the Oval is a study in transition: the elms bare or close to it, the first real cold arriving, and the semester entering its final stretch. It is also when the campus shows its public face most plainly — prospective students touring, families visiting, and residents cutting through on the same paths students use, as they have for generations.

This station will cover CSU as what it is: a major university, a major employer and a neighbor. That starts with the ground everyone shares. The Oval belongs to the university, but like Old Town Square a few blocks north, it is one of the places where Fort Collins recognizes itself.
